5. The Kiss ( Episode 3, “Forces of Nature”)

In the third episode of season three, pivotal moments unfolded in Colin and Penelope’s relationship. This episode marked a significant shift in their dynamic, as their friendship hinted at evolving into something more, particularly for Colin, who had previously been oblivious to his feelings for Penelope. It had been evident since her introduction in the first season that Pen has harbored a deep affection for Colin. After everyone discovers her charm lessons with Colin, Pen decides to terminate them, convinced that it’s futile and resigned to the idea of being a spinster for life. Just before suggesting to Colin that they should cease communication, she, as a friend, requests her first kiss from him, expressing her desire to be with him if she were to kiss only one person in her life. Initially unconventional and awkward, he obliges for the sake of Pen, his closest friend. It is during this moment that Colin realizes his love for her. His gaze at her as she walks away signifies a profound shift in his universe.

4. Wildest Dreams (Episode 3, “Forces of Nature”)

In the world of Bridgerton, the show truly shines in its ability to foreshadow events. For instance, in the season 2 finale, Colin adamantly denies the possibility of courting Penelope, declaring, “I would never dream of courting Penelope Featherington. Not in your wildest dreams.” Yet, after sharing a kiss with her, Colin experiences a fervent dream about her, and he noticeably becomes affected whenever she is in his presence. This pivotal moment signifies his burgeoning emotions and adds depth to the story’s progression. It’s a subtle and easily overlooked detail, making it all the more rewarding for attentive viewers.

3. Sweet Tooth (Episode 3, “Forces of Nature”)

At the hot air balloon festival, Colin and Pen sneak to the sweets tent for a private conversation, surrounded by the enticing aroma of sugary treats. It is there that Pen confides in Colin about Lord Debling’s interest in her. However, as Pen delicately licks the sugar frosting from the cupcake off her fingers, Colin becomes visibly captivated. A subtle tension builds in his eyes as he longs to experience the sweetness of the sugar on her lips. This moment also cleverly references an earlier scene from the first season when Pen asks Marina (played by Ruby Barker) how she became pregnant, and Marina humorously replies, “Cake.”

2. The Confrontation (Episode 1, “Out of the Shadows”)

In the highly anticipated season premiere, Penelope returns from her journey with her mother, exuding a newfound confidence and maturity. Her physical transformation is remarkable, and she captivates the Ton with her stunning presence at the season’s inaugural ball. As the stripped-down quartet version of Gayle’s “abcdefu” by Vitula sets the mood, all eyes are on Penelope.

However, the evening turns for the worse when Penelope’s tormentor, Cressida (played by Jessica Madsen), maliciously damages her dress, prompting Penelope to flee the ball in humiliation. Colin, realizing her distress, rushes after her, only to confront the repercussions of his hurtful words in the presence of his peers. This pivotal moment sees Penelope asserting herself and holding Colin accountable, potentially jeopardizing their friendship.

1. The Carriage Scene (Episode 4, “Old Friends”)

It took 20 episodes spread across two and a half seasons to build up to this moment – the most talked-about 15 minutes. Colin’s pursuit of Penelope after Lord Depling’s failed proposal had “Polin” fans eagerly anticipating more. The scene had such raw emotion and authenticity it felt like we were intruding on a private moment. Colin finally bared his soul to Penelope, confessing his love and not realizing that she felt the same all along. It’s not often that a grown woman kicks her feet in excitement, but a man yearning for the touch of the woman he loves will do it every time. When Penelope ran her fingers through Colin’s hair, it was like watching a dog getting scratched just right. The moment became more interesting because of Penelope’s boldness – despite being seen as innocent and inexperienced, she went for it. The hand placement was everything. Colin Bridgerton can now add “Gardener” to his list of skills. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any more enticing, they left us hanging after Colin proposed to Penelope.

While we all collectively scream, “You must make haste!” for the second half of this season, which we all know will be spicier and more dramatic, this author hopes you enjoyed this article and would love to hear your Bridgerton season 3, Part 2 predictions in the comments below.
